Culture prize for the opera
On 13 November, Opera Trøndelag was presented with the cultural award from Stjørdal municipality during Ole Vig's grand final event at Kimen Kulturhus. The award was presented by the Mayor of Stjørdal, Eli Arnstad, and Rune Larsen, Chairman of the Committee for Culture and Living Conditions.
Opera Trøndelag is a continuation of Steinvikholm Music Theatre, which was founded in 1992. The musical Lucie, later the opera Olav Engelbrektsson, was performed between 1993 and 2015. Since then, Opera Trøndelag has annually presented well-known and beloved operettas, grand operas and musicals to the Stjørdal audience.
Extract from the website of Opera Trøndelag: "OPERA TRØNDELAG SA is a district opera company with the purpose of conducting activities within opera and musical theatre, locally and regionally, where interaction between professionals and amateurs is central. The company aims to promote activities where children and young people can develop in the performing arts. Opera Trøndelag has particularly excelled in the development of young talent."
Through its activities, Opera Trøndelag has delighted a large audience for many years. They have attracted children, young people and the elderly to the Kimen cultural centre and presented performing arts at a highly professional level. In addition, the opera has visited schools and institutions through the cultural school bag/spaserstokken programme. In addition, they have delivered culture for "the people": opera pub, variety theatre, opera cinema and, not least, sing-alongs at Kimen. The opera has also contributed to development opportunities for local amateurs both on and behind the scenes, e.g. in the opera choir, in the sewing room, in the make-up room and in event technology.
We believe that Opera Trøndelag's contribution to cultural life in Stjørdal municipality has been significant over many years. We would particularly like to emphasise Opera Trøndelag's focus on children and young people. The purpose of the Opera School is to make high-quality performing arts available to children and young people, and to motivate them to take further steps in the field. The Opera School aims to be a playground for the performing arts, providing children and young people with a positive learning and experience that is important for their future. Regardless of their role later in life, this is an important platform. At the beginning of 2000, there was extra pressure from children and young people to be on stage in Opera Olav Engelbrektsson. Against this background, the Opera School was started in 2001. The aim was to make high quality performing arts available to children and young people and at the same time motivate them to take further steps in the field. The Opera School offers programmes for the 10 to 18 age group where interaction and stage discipline are essential. With regular rehearsals once a week during the school year, the Opera School is a hotbed where music is practised in joy and community. A good example of the pioneering and good work is the newly written musical theatre "Cella Mi".
Many thanks to our host municipality Stjørdal.
