About the opera
La Traviata is one of the most performed operas in history, and you can finally experience it in Kimen Cultural Centre, when the fragile and beautiful tones of the overture to La Traviata will fill the auditorium in April & May 2024. We will meet the beautiful Violetta and follow the intense but forbidden love between her and Alfredo. She literally loves her way from a life of luxury at the top of the courtesan heap to a death in oblivion and poverty.
It will be an opera of life and death when Verdi's great masterpiece once again comes to life under the auspices of Opera Trøndelag.
Being able to love who you want
The story of perhaps the most famous companion in opera history, Violetta, is based on a true story and the novel The Lady Camellia by Alexandre Dumas. La Traviata has since become one of the most performed operas in opera literature, and the story is told again and again.
Violetta's exclusion and unfortunate fate have also been easy to recognise for many queer people throughout history. With this as a starting point, director and choreographer Arne Fagerholt has been inspired by contemporary cult phenomena such as ballroom, trans culture and vogueing, known from the HBO series Pose.
