Carmina Burana

When darkness threatens - art and culture become even more important

In the spring of 2026, Opera Trøndelag and the Norwegian Air Force Band will unite in a collaboration that will challenge, move and uplift. With Carmina Burana, a new artistic project is presented that allows culture to reflect the turmoil and hope of our time.

In the musical work Carmina Burana, we follow man in his battle with fate - Fortuna - the capricious mistress who gives and takes without warning. She spins the wheel of fortune erratically and randomly, blindly choosing who will experience happiness and who will experience despair and misery.

The human versus the monumental.

In a world characterised by war, control and dark forces, we bring together the strength of art and the fragility of humanity in a performance unlike any other. With choirs from all over Trøndelag, opera soloists, the Air Force Band, the Opera School and contemporary circus, we create a magnificent and sensuous journey through the extremes of life: ecstasy and despair, intoxication and stagnation, desire and hope.

What happens when everything falls apart?
Who gets to participate - and who is sacrificed?
What are we fighting for and what keeps us going?

In a world characterised by turmoil and imbalance - like a constantly spinning wheel of fortune - we need art.
And we need each other.
